More Information on the Program:
Providing nutritional supplements and incontinence products is an important part of our commitment to addressing the physical needs of cancer patients. We also understand that cancer affects the spirits of patients as well as the bodies. The Wellness Community provides wigs and prostheses to help patients regain their self-esteem and independence during and after treatment. As a result, patients feel more in control of their lives.
How the Program Works
Upon the referral of a doctor, nurse, or medical social worker, many items can be ordered by The Wellness Community and sent directly to the patient within a few days. Items such as wigs, bras, and prosthetic devices require a voucher which can be used by the patient to make the purchase. All bills are paid by The Wellness Community’s Staenberg Family Foundation Cancer Services program. Due to limitations in funding, each patient is limited to one wig, one breast prosthesis, two mastectomy bras, and one lymphedema sleeve and glove per year. Patients must reside in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, or Franklin County in Missouri or Madison, Monroe, or St. Clair Counties in Illinois
OR come to the St. Louis Metro Area for treatment.
Who is Eligible
Any person with a cancer diagnosis who is financially in need of medically related supplies not otherwise covered by private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
Financially in need means that this person could not or would not be able to purchase obtain this item/s on their own without experiencing/undergoing considerable financial strain/stress.
Application process
Doctors, nurses, or medical social workers involved in the patient’s care can Download a Referral Form here on our website, fill it out, and fax back to The Wellness Community at 314-909-9900. These forms are also available in cancer centers at St. Louis area hospitals or by contacting The Wellness Community at 314-238-2000.
