elcome! We are pleased that you are interested in becoming a volunteer with The Wellness Community of Greater St. Louis. Our volunteers have our commitment to help make volunteering a meaningful experience and to provide them with the information and support they will need to be effective volunteers.

Volunteers play a vital role in our organization. Volunteers spread the word about our free services and programs at local cancer centers and at health fairs, greet our participants, help us with mailings, and work with us at special events, educational events, and cooking programs. Whether you decide to volunteer once a week, once a month, or once a year, your volunteer time will help make a difference in the lives of people living with cancer who come to The Wellness Community for emotional support, education and hope. All of our services are offered free of charge so each time a volunteer donates his or her time, it helps the organization save money and supports our small staff.

A volunteer application form and volunteer job descriptions can be found on this page. Please email Linda Novak, Marketing and Volunteer Manager, at lnovak@wellnesscommunitystl.org  or call 314-238-2000 ext 231 if you have questions.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

There are several volunteer opportunities available at The Wellness Community. Whether you want to volunteer once a week or once a year, we have a place for you! Volunteers can chose the project you find most interesting or we can recommend an area of particular need. A one hour volunteer training session is required before you can volunteer.

Ambassador Program
Four times per year, we publish and distribute a calendar of programs so that cancer patients and the medical community are updated on our activities. Ambassadors help us save money on postage and increase awareness by personally delivering calendars to medical facilities in the metropolitan area and interfacing with front office staff on a monthly basis to check on whether they need more calendars and to check on whether they have any questions about our services.

What's Involved?
Ambassadors need to be friendly, well-spoken and informed about The Wellness Community. They also need a car and the ability to carry roughly a 10 lb. box of calendar packets. We will provide you with a list of places to deliver the calendar packets. Calendars are delivered monthly, generally during the weekday. We would ask you to commit to delivering calendars to five local medical offices monthly.

Facility Greeters                                                                                                                                                                   Volunteer greeters help provide a friendly smile to people with cancer and their loved ones when they come to The Wellness Community, especially those coming for the first time. They also help our small staff manage office projects.

What's Involved?
We need people available for both daytime and evenings (with friendly smiles!) during the week that have at least three hours to give on a regular basis (once a week, every other week, or once a month).

Health Fair Volunteers
Throughout the year, The Wellness Community sets up information booths at various health fairs and community educational fairs across the metropolitan area. They are important opportunities to share information about our programs.

What's Involved?
Health Fairs are scheduled both during the week and on weekends, usually during the day. Volunteers pass out literature and talk about the services at The Wellness Community. Volunteers are included on a list and are called when needed. This is the perfect opportunity for people who can't commit to a regular volunteer schedule.

Mailing Volunteers
The Wellness Community sends a lot of information through the mail and many of these mailings are quite large. They include information to our participants and medical professionals as well as fund raising appeals to help pay for our free programs.

What's Involved?
Mailing volunteers are included on a list and are phoned in advance when we need help throughout the year. Most mailings are stuffed during the weekday but periodically special arrangements can be made for evening shifts. We ask that you commit to a two-hour shift.

Special Events Volunteers
The Wellness Community conducts several special events during the year. Most of these are fund raising events but we occasionally have events for our participants. These events are held throughout the year, generally on the weekends or weekday evenings. Our two largest fund raising events are our Cancer Survivorship Walk held in the spring and Celebration of Hope held in the fa

What's Involved?
There are a variety of ways to volunteer for special events from being on a planning committee to helping out the day of the event. Special events provide the opportunity to volunteer for a limited amount of time (once a year on event day) or get more involved in our organization by serving on a committee. We will work with you to determine how much time you have and your area of interest!

Educational Events Volunteer
The Wellness Community conducts several large educational events throughout the year. Most of these are located in the central corridor, at The Lodge Des Peres, or in St. Peters, MO. Educational events are held on Saturdays or through the week, evenings and day time hours.

What’s Involved? Volunteers are needed to pick up food, assist in set up of food, registration and breakdown and delivery of materials back to TWC (on occasion).
